Check Up Time

All the kids have been to see their doctor to get check ups this past week. They are all doing just great. Here are their stats:

Patrick:
50.5 inches tall - 50%
54.25 lbs - 40%

Benjamin:
44.5 inches tall - 45%
45.25 lbs - 55%

Grace:
37.5 inches tall - 35%
32.75 lbs - 50%

Emma:
30.25 inches tall - 70%
21.5 lbs - 45%
18 inch head circumference - 60%

I mentioned something about Patrick being skinny to the doctor and he told me he looks exactly how an 8 year old should look. He said that we are being conditioned to think that the chubbier look is "normal". I had really never thought of it that way. I was also surprised to see that Grace had grown 3 inches in the last 8 months! I knew she had grown but even the doctor was surprised that she shot up that much!

The percentiles are just an indicator of the growth of the kids. In general if they are in the 25% for weight then they are heavier than 25% of kids the same age and lighter than 75% of the same group. They really don't mean a lot - you'd have to see their entire "growth chart" to see how they are growing over time for them to matter too much. According to their charts Emma is looking like she's going to be taller than Grace. I think Grace gets her height from my mom and Emma gets hers from Mark's mom!

I'm sure all this "technical" info about the kids matters to no one but me - but when I lose the little papers that the doctor sent home with their info on it, at least I'll have this post to look back on :)
