Galena - Day 1: River Cruise

Thursday, July 22, 2010
We started out in Dubuque, IA.  We spent the night there on Wednesday so that we had a full day to play on Thursday.  We had booked reservations in advance on the "Spirit of Dubuque" for a lunch cruise on the Mississippi River.  Our boat was an old fashioned paddle-wheel type.  There was an indoor deck in the lower area of the boat where lunch was served.  There was also an open upper deck for great views of the river.  It wasn't sunny out but it was a nice day.  It stopped raining right when we got to the dock to board the boat!  We had a "small" problem about 2/3 the way through our cruise when one of the two paddles stopped working.  We cruised along on the river just fine but they had to call in another boat to guide/push us back into the dock.  What a way to start out our adventure!

Watch out for ducks!
The bathrooms were a little...well, "little".

Notice one wheel is spinning and one is not...
Here comes the "Katie Ann" to push us into port!
Took a while to dock...but we got there!
This crazy guy kept leaping back and forth between boats like it was nothing!  I guess he knew what he was doing...
